General Job Description:
Davis Hill Development (DHD) is looking to add a Solar Vegetative Maintenance Manager position to our Operations and Maintenance team. The position will support the expansion of DHD’s commercial asset management team that manages our growing portfolio of distributed solar, commercial solar, energy storage and electric vehicle charging systems in the United States. Additionally, we want a candidate that knows how and wants to grow a business – we are starting the solar O&M side of the business and want this member of the team to be active in expanding our services to other businesses and markets. The Vegetative Maintenance Manager will be responsible for maintaining our sites through tasks like mowing, trimming, pest control, and clearing stormwater drains, swales, and check dams. Candidates should have knowledge of land management equipment and landscaping best practices. They should be able to demonstrate their knowledge of safely and properly operating medium-to-heavy duty equipment such as mowers, tractors, towing and trailers, as well as hand tools, such as shovels, rakes, pruning saws, saws, hedge or brush trimmers, or axes. We’re looking for self-starters with a demonstrated history of academic and/or professional success. This role will require regular travel to our sites across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor and maintain land at our growing portfolio of sites
- Perform regular maintenance of the grounds surrounding solar panels and racking; including mowing, trimming, weed-whacking, shrub and tree trimming, erosion management, and access road clearing of job sites before, during, and after construction
- Grow our business and take ownership of our sites as well as be a self-starter and find opportunities and customers to enhance value for the business
- Pest control and prevention of animal intrusion
- Operate, maintain and service all landscaping equipment regularly
- Maintain records of vegetative management & maintenance activities
- Monitor and maintain vegetation to prevent shading of solar panels, ensuring maximum efficiency.
- Remove debris, litter, and any obstacles that may interfere with the operation of the solar facility.
- Conduct routine inspections of sites to identify any issues related to groundskeeping or equipment.
- Assist with implementation of erosion control measures and other environmental protection efforts.
- Support the solar operations team with light maintenance tasks as needed.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures, always wear personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Communicate effectively to support decision-making
- Collaborate with other team members to maintain a safe, clean, and efficient work environment.
Experience / Qualifications
- 5+ years of vegetation management experience, utility-scale renewable energy site vegetation management experience preferred
- 5+ years of machine maintenance experience
- OSHA 10, or ability to obtain
- CPR and First Aid certifications, or ability to obtain
- Prior experience with module cleaning is preferred
- Ability to schedule maintenance activities and create long-term commitments to vegetative maintenance
Physical Abilities
- Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50 pounds regularly
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods
- Ability to work in all outdoor weather conditions
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials
