Job Title: Solar Interconnection Engineer
Location: Nashville TN (Hybrid)
Davis Hill Development (DHD) is seeking a Solar Interconnection Engineer to join our development team. As a Solar Interconnection Engineer at DHD Solar, you will play a key role in analysis and diligence, developing community solar power projects, with a focus on the Interconnection of each. Your role will be focused on driving all technical aspects of utility interconnection across a range of distributed generation project.
This role will serve as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on interconnection requirements, coordinate closely with utilities and internal teams, and ensure efficient, compliant, and cost-effective outcomes.
The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise with strong utility coordination skills, document management, and the ability to train and elevate internal teams. You will work closely with the Vice President of Development and cross-functional teams, providing support throughout the development stages of the process, from site assessment to construction ready, with a focus on Interconnection studies and electric system upgades.
Responsiilities:
● Serve as the company's subject matter expert on utility interconnection policies, processes, tariffs, technical standards, and regulatory guidelines across multiple jursdictions.
● Review and interpret utility standards and requirements, ensuring accurate and complint designs.
● Research and maintain a knowledge base of interconnection standards acros utilities.
● Manage and lead the development of interconnection application packages, with support of third-pary engineers.
● Utility and Stakeholde Coordination:
● Interface directly with utility engineers to facilitate application review, advocate for cost-effective solutions, and resolve tecnical disputes.
● Push back on excessive or unnecessary upgrade requirements hen appropriate.
● Act as the primary technical point of contact for clients regarding interconnection issues, providing clear and timey communication.
● Document Managemnt and Compliance:
● Oversee the creation & revision
of interconnection tandards documents.
● Monitor ongoing changes in interconnection codes, standards, and regulations, ensuring
that internal proceses remain compliant.
● Conduct technical QC reviews of internal and external interconnection documentsprior to submission.
● Cross-Fuctional Collaboration:
● Coordinate with project teams (electrical, structural, civil) during early-stage development and easibility assessments.
● Provide technical input during project kickoff and development stages to ensure interconnection feasibility aligns with siteand design constraints.
● Trainin and Process Improvement:
● Develop internal standards, templates, and checklists for intrconnection documentation.
● Train and mentor staff involved in nterconnection preparation.
● Continuously improve interconnection planning and document
management processes to enhace efficiency and accuracy.
● Strtegic and Analytical Support:
● Analyze interconnection trends, such as approval timelines, upgrade cost drivers, and success rate, to inform business strategy.
● Support strategic planning for project development based on utility capacity, interconnection queue analysis, andanticipated regulatory hanges.
Preferred Backgrounds:
We are open to candidates from a range of backgrounds, including (i) development engineering roles at solar developers or IPPs, with experience managing interconnection strategy and utility coordination, (ii) utility-side engineers who have evaluated and processed solar interconnection applications and understand internal approval workflows, and (iii) engineering consulting or EPC firms with hands-on experience preparing interconnection packages across various utilities and jurisdictions. Candidates with hybrid experience across hese areas areespecially valuale.
Requirements:
Qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree i Electrical Engineering or related field
●
5+ years of experience with solar PV or energy storage interconnection applications
● Strong understanding of NEC, IEEE, NES, and utility interconnection requirements
● Proficiency in reading andpreparing SLDs and interconnection drawings
● Familiarity with grid modeling tols (e.g.,
CYME, SKM, PSCAD, PSS/E) is a plus
● Excellnt verbal and written communication skills •
● Highly oranized with strong document control discipline
● Assist both the ground mounted and commercial and industrial development teams, with the interconnection side of the development process, including vetting interconnection viability for pre development projects, securing interconnection agreements, conducting due diligence, and coordinating with various stakeholders including but not limited to landowners, local and ISO-level utilities, and all government agencies.
